Diego Maradona and drugs

  • In 1991 when he was playing for Napoli, after a test showed cocaine use, the player was given a three-month suspension.
  • The player was also convicted of using ephedrine during the 1994 World Cup in the United States.
  • In 2000 he had a heart attack after a drug overdose during a vacation in Uruguay.

Coach Maradona

After years of drug addiction, in 2008 Maradona returned to the national team, this time as coach.

  • He even coached Argentina in the qualifying round for the World Cup in South Africa.
  • Maradora also worked at Al-Fujairah, a team in the United Arab Emirates.
  • That was the end for Maradona, who stepped down as national coach in 2010.

Maradona's family

  • Maradona was married between 1984 and 2003 to Claudia Villafañe. Two girls were born of the marriage (Dalma and Giannina).
  • After the divorce, two children emerged from alleged extramarital relationships. Later, other children from casual relationships came to light.

Death

  • November 25, 2020, he shocked the world when he died at the age of 60 at home in Buenos Aires after a cardiopulmonary arrest. Three days of mourning were declared in Argentina, showing the respect his country of origin had for him.

Soccer career

  • In 1979, he was winner of the Under-21 World Cup;
  • In 1981, he moved to Boca Juniors and won his first national title there;
  • In June 1982, Maradona signed a contract with Barcelona;
  • Two years later he moved to Naples;
  • Towards the end of his career, returned to Spain, this time to play for Sevilla.

  • However, Maradona was never one to give up and even after his career as a footballer was over, he dedicated himself to writing the book "Yo soy el Diego" and even had a television show called “La noche del diez”.

  • Maradona was born in a very poor suburb of Buenos Aires on October 30, 1960
  • His soccer career started at the age of nine, when he was called up to play for a local team called "Los Cebollitas"

As well as being a coach, he was:

  • President of the Strategic Council of Dinamo Brest. Alongside his position as Chairman of the Board, Maradona took on a new job.

  • The following year, he made his debut for the national team and thus became the youngest player ever to make his debut for the national team
