Marin Luter King Jr

Martin Luter King Jr was born on January 15, 1929, he was a farmer for some years and at that time black Americans were victims of racial segregation: they were forbidden access to many schools, universities, sports clubs, recreation centers...

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was sitting on a bus on her way home. The seats were all taken and when a white person asked him to stand up he said no. For this act she was arrested.

Within a few hours, Martin Luter King Jr made his church available to organize the protest: a boycott of public transport was decided, a form of peaceful struggle, inspired by Gandhi's teachings.

In the summer of 1963 a procession of over 200,000 people flooded downtown Washington calling for the Civil Rights Act. Over 80,000 participants were white and marched alongside others singing black and white together. His speech was greeted with thunderous applause: "I have a dream: that my four little children will one day be able to live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the qualities of their character."

In February 1964, blacks were still beaten and killed and only 4 years later Martin Luter King was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee with a rifle shot while he was overlooking the balcony of a hotel.

I chose Martin Luther King because, despite everything he experienced and suffered, he continued on his path, for his goal of putting an end to racism against blacks.
