Educators design authentic, learner-driven activities and environments that recognize and accommodate learner variability.
By: Jayla Thompson, Nathan Walser, and Haleigh Faucette
- Use technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accomodate learner differences and needs
- Using technology in your classroom is always a good resource because it helps make our jobs as teachers easier and it makes the learning experience better for students. The overall outcome for the learning experience will benefit both teachers and learners by using technology. Using technology also allows teachers to utilize it's functionalities to accomodate students own personal needs.
- The classroom is a good place to test out and experiment with new technology. Its a great way to try new technology that for example allows teachers to track students who are struggling or it can help maximize student learning and engagement. Its also a great place to use technology that can help students foster indepent learning and help boost thier motivation to learn.
- An example of technology that can help both students and teachers is using software that can track where students are struggling at. This is great for teachers because it helps them keep track of where students need help at and it helps students focus more on their weaknesses.
2.5.a Accommodate Learner Differences
2.5.b Design Authentic Learning Activities
- Design authenitc learning activities that align with content area standards and use digital tools and resources to maximize active, deep learning.
- Using authentic learning activities in the classroom can provide learning experiences that have value or resonance beyond the classroom/academics.
- Some examples of authentic learning activities in the classroom would be using digital tools to provide students the ability to help solve real-world and/or global problems, as well as career/workforce- related projects and skill-building.
2.5.c Create Innovative Learning Environments
Explore and apply instructional design principles to create innovative digital learning environments that engage and support learning. Your classroom is always about personalizing the experience for each child to feel welcomed within their learning capability. The first step in doing that is creating an environment that they feel they belong to. We as teachers design, develop and evaluate each student to figure out their learning styles through assessments. After each student has been assessed and we now know their strengths and weaknesses we can incorporate those to their benefit into the learning strategies and activities chosen in lesson planning. In the classroom we are bound to have diversity. Some children will have impairments whether it be vision, hearing, physical or cognitive. It is up to us as the instructors to provide modifications to personalize the activities so that each child gets the best learning experience out of the lesson to reach their specified goal using digital tools and resources. An example of what this would look like in a classroom is an iPad center. This is a personalized digital learning tool that teachers can modify with different learning apps as needed for their specified classroom. If a student has hearing or vision impairment the instructor could have accessible games downloaded so they be involved as well. This digital tool is used for each student’s range of learning style planned and structured by the instructor.
