1958

September 4, 1957, Eckford transferred to Little Rock Central High School as a a memeber of the Little Rock Nine. Due to miscommunication in the travel plans, Eckford arrived to school alone and was faced with a angry mob of people not interested in desegregating.

Elizabeth Eckford was born October 4, 1941 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Oscar Eckford, Jr. and Birdie Eckford

Eckford was awarded the prestigious Spingarn Medal by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), as were the rest of the Little Rock Nine and Daisy Bates, in 1958.

September 23, Elizabeth along with other members of "Little Rock Nine" attended 3 hours of classes at Little Rock High School before being sent home.

September 25, The Little Rock Nine began regular class attendance at Central High.

Eckford co-wrote a book, book for young readers, The Worst First Day: Bullied while Desegregating Central High, with Dr. Eurydice Stanley and Grace Stanley and featuring artwork by Rachel Gibson

President Bill Clinton presented the nation’s highest civilian award, the Congressional Gold Medal, to the members of the Little Rock Nine.

Graduated from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, with a B.A in History.

Eckford received Honorary Degree of Humane Letters from Knox College.

November 19, Eckford spoke at the keel-laying ceremony of the attack submarine USS Arkansas (SSN-800) at Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virginia.
