The artists
Tío Tigre and Tío Conejo are two characters from the Venezuelan literature. Many children's stories have been written with these two characters as the main protagonists.At the concert, you will experience five different tales of Tío Tigre and Tío Conejo, each accompanied by music. But who are these characters?
The story and its protagonists
Tío Tigre is always hungry and is determined to catch and eat Tío Conejo. He makes traps that aren't very good. He always tries to intimidate and take advantage of those smaller and weaker than himself.
Tío Tigre
He is very clever and always knows how to get out of Tío Tigre's traps. He is not afraid of Tío Tigre's teeth or strength. He is a trickster (pícaro, in Spanish).

You will have the chance to participate in the concert in a variety of ways!
Preparatory activities

The artists
Ariana Pirela Sánchez is a multidisciplinary artist of Spanish-Venezuelan origin, with a background in dance, video, theater and performance. She plays the role of Tío Conejo in this concert.

A 2008 graduate of the École nationale de théâtre du Canada, Victor Andres Trelles Turgeon has played a number of outstanding roles in theater, television and film. He plays the role of Tío Tigre in this concert.

Hector Molina is a Venezuelan composer, as well as a cuatro and guitar player. He earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Composition from UNEARTE in Venezuela. He has shared the stage with very acclaimed musicians. Hector accompanies certain segments of the concert on the cuatro.

Soraya Benitez (contralto) is without doubt one of the great voices of Latin American today, and one of its most spectacular songwriters. She arrived in Quebec from her native Venezuela in 1997. Soraya sings a song at the concert.

Rafael Payare is the Musical Director and Conductor of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. The conductor is the person who stands in front of the musicians with their back to the audience! One of his tasks is to indicate to the musicians when to start playing and when to stop. He also shows the musicians when they should play louder or softer (dynamics), faster or slower (tempo).

The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal is an ensemble of approximately 90 musicians whose goal is to perform and promote orchestral music. The symphony's repertoire includes works that are over 300 years old, new music that is being performed for the first time in concert, and everything in between!

Charles holds an acting diploma from the École nationale de théâtre du Canada. Co-founder and artistic director of Théâtre Sans Domicile Fixe since 2008, he is actively involved in the company, in addition to wearing the hats of stage director and actor. Charles Dauphinais is this concert’s stage director. His job is to conceptualize and oversee the various aspects of a show, including the actors’ performances, lighting, sets, script, and so on.

Caroline Hamel is an illustrator and graphic designer based in Montréal. In 2005, she won the Prix Québec/Wallonie-Bruxelles with the youth album Maman s'est perdue. She is also the illustrator of the biography La légende de Louis Cyr. Her bibliography now includes more than twenty titles. Caroline created the illustrations for this concert.

But what kind of rabbit is Tío Conejo?
Tio Conejo is a savannah rabbit (Sylvilagus floridanus).

These characters are familiarly called "Tío" (Spanish for uncle). They are not real uncles!
