CRDA CANTEEN: the NEW MARKET

PROPOSAL
In Trieste there are a lot of abbandoned buildings located in many different areas of the city, which, with a sufficient amount of money, could easily be refurbished. One of those is an old factory situated under Via Locchi near Sant Andrea's football pitch. Given that it's really near to the city center and it's also easily accessible by busses, in our opinion rennovating this building could be a great idea.
CRDA CANTEEN:
- it was inaugurated in 1956 and abandoned in 1971, it's a public property and has been put back on the market by the municipality of Trieste, had 5 floors and brutalist structure. - today it is only the canteen of what was once a huge plant that produced engines - the old canteen was created to hold around two thousand workers.
THE "NUOVO MERCATO COPERTO"
Moreover it's extremely near to the sea adding to it a jaw-dropping view on our city. Our idea is to create a modern and eco-friendly version of "mercato coperto" also because it would be an amazing rivisitaion of the market of Trieste. So this could become a meeting point for people of all ages and economical condutions, other than being extremely useful also to support the local economy
OUR IDEA:
As it is on different floors, I think that could be organised based on their functions, such as one dedicated to the sale of local products, another can be dedicated instead to the typical products of the minorities present in Trieste since it is a multi-ethnic city. Another one could be used for food with various healthy restaurants and cafes. Another floor could be reserved as an area for tasting typical wines of the territory, while the last floor can be used as a functional space for cooking show events or educazione workshops.
