Context
In 1993, she was forced to have the both legs amputated after losing her sigth, two direct consequences of her diabetes and deteriorating health. Ella died three years later, at her 79's, in her house in Beverly Hills, LA.She left behind her 70 albums, 14 awards, 40 millions records solds, 60 years of carrer and a rich heritage. After her death, she had a lot of hommages even in France with the song "Ella" of France Gall.

Career
She won the competition. Benny Carter, a saxophonist, noticed her and managed her. She sang in all the concert hall in New York and met Chik Webb, a conductor. She joined his jazz-band and recorded her first song:" Love and Kisses" in 1936. She had a lot of success but after Webb's dead, she left the jazz-band and started her solo career. After the war, her first solo studio album, "For sentiment Reasons"(1947) confirmed her as one of the biggest stars of the moment and the one who developed the gospel and the "singing jazz".
During the 1950's, she collaborated with a lot of famous artists and song writers like Cole Porter, Gershwin Brothers or Louis Amstrong with whom she did two albums names "Ella and Louis"(1956) and "Ella and Louis again"(1957)

- In 1960, she got her stars in the Walk of Dame in Hollywood
- In 1967, she bacame an honorary chairmanship of the Martin Luther King foundation
- She won 14 awards, including one for Lifetime Archiements in 1967
- She also had many movies and documentary on her life.
- Her songs appear in famous movies and series like Stranger Things

BIOGRAPHY
Ella Jane Fitzgerald was born the april 25th 1917 in Newport News, Virginie. Her parents divorced when she was only 2 years old. Her dad Matthew Fitzgerald, left alone his kids and his ex-wife. Her mom, Temperance, got into a new relationship and moved in 1920 at Yonkers in New York where Ella will grow up. To help her mom and her step-dad, Ella had to do many jobs but she started hanging out in jazz club at the end of the day. But in 1932, her mom and her step-dad died at the same time. So at her 15 years old, Ella had to live with her aunt. She started stealing and running away from her aunt's house. Then, she started working for the local mafia to pay some food.
Passionated by music and dance, she signed up at an amateur competition trying to be famous so as to pay a house and some food.
