The year is 1885. I wrote an article in the Statistical Society in England titled, “Laws of Migration”. In this article I explained many migration patterns between towns and cities.

During the nineteenth century, there was an influx of people moving all around Europe, and in and out of North America. The industrial revolution, and the advent of the railroads encouraged people to leave farms and relocate to urban areas in search of a better life for themselves and their families.

RAVENSTEIN'S LAWS OF MIGRATION Using the data from my studies, I deduced that migration happens in patterns. So, I wrote them down, and named them after myself, of course!
1. Every migration flow generates a return or counter-migration. 2. The majority of migrants move a short distance. 3. Migrants who move longer distances tend to choose big-city destinations.
