Agnese la madre di Lucia dice a Renzo di andare da un avvocato soprannominato Azzecca-Garbugli che quando scopre che era vittima di Don R odrigo lo caccia

7 novembre 1968 Don Abondio torna in chiesa e trova 2 bravi mandati da Don Rodrigo che gli intimano di non clebrare il matrimonio minacciandolo di morte.

Il giorno dopo renzo si presenta casa del prete che riesce a rimandare il matrimonio. Reanzo corre da Lucia che si stava preparandoe gli rivela di essere stata molestata da Don Rodrigo e di averlo detto a padre Cristoforo

Nel frattempo Don Rodrigo incarica il Griso di rapire Lucia ma il piano fallisce perchè lei si trovava a casa di Don Abbondio per il matrimonio che non va a buon fine perchè Lucia si confonde

Lucia va in un monastero di Monza retto da Gertrude

Agnese Renzo e Lucia si recano dal padre Cristoforo che li convince ad allontanarsi dal paese

Agnese propone ai due giovani di recarsi da Don Abbondio e pronunciare la formula che renderebbe il matrimonio valido. Renzo chiede al suo amico Tonio e a suo fratello Gervaso di fare i testimoni

Renzo andrà a Milano in un convetto di cappuccini
