Canvas Guide: How to Add Assignment Groups
You have the flexibility to organize your course content using assignment groups. While it's common to set this up before the course begins, feel free to make adjustments whenever you need to. Personalize the weights assigned to each group based on the percentage value of the assignments within, making sure they match the grading scale you've outlined in your syllabus.

Canvas Guide: How to Send Messages to Students from Gradebook
The "Message Students Who" feature allows instructors to send personalized messages to individual students directly from the Gradebook. This is an excellent way to alert students who haven't submitted the assignment.
Late Policy
Canvas Guide: How to Apply a Late Policy
The Late Submission policy allows you to automatically deduct points on all late submissions. A submission is labeled late when it has been submitted past the due date. Only assignments with a status of Late will be affected by the Late Submission policy. The late policy will be applied to a submission when it is graded.⚠️ Keep in mind if your courses uses New Quizzes, when performing a course copy, it's important to either disable the policy before the course copy or remove dates during the course import. Failure to do so will result in zeroes being assigned in the new course, requiring manual removal of the zeros afterward. ⚠️
