1. Borders of Spain.

- The northern border runs along the Cantabrian Sea, France and Andorra. - The eastern border stretches entirely along the Mediterranean Sea. - In the south, Spain borders the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and Gibraltar. - In the west, the border is shared with Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean.

The Meseta Central is the area of land in the center of Spain . It's a plateau. There are two groups of mountains on the Meseta Central: the Sistema Central and the Montes de Toledo.

Mountains that are around the Meseta Central are the Cordillera Cantábrica and the Sistema Ibérico.

There are some mountain ranges that are far from the Meseta Central. The Pyrenees in the north, the Macizo Galaico in the north-west and the Sistemas Béticos in the south.

The body of water that a river finally flows into is called its watershed. Spain’s rivers belong to the Atlantic, Cantabrian and Mediterranean watersheds.

The main rivers of the Atlantic watershed are: Miño, Duero, Tajo, Guadiana and Guadalquivir.

The main rivers of the Cantabrian watershed are: Eo, Navia and Nalón.

The main rivers of the Mediterranean watershed are: Ebro, Júcar and Segura.

3.1. Main facts

Spain is a parliamentary monarchy. The King is the head of state but he doesn’t govern. He only represents Spain. Felipe VI is the king of Spain. The constitution is the most important Spanish law. Citizens of Spain elect the president of the government every 4 years in General elections . Spain has a flag and an anthem.

3.1. Main facts

There is also a president in each autonomous community who is elected by the citizens of these communities. In each municipality there is a mayor that works at the town hall.

3.2. Autonomous Communities

Spain is divided into seventeen (17) autonomous communities and two (2) autonomous cities ( Ceuta and Melilla) Each autonomous community can have 1 or more provinces. They have their own capital and flag. The capital of Spain is Madrid.

Each autonomous community is divided into provinces. The provinces are composed of municipalities.
