This theory is not limited to academic or educational learning, it can also be applied to recreational learning such as playing games or using technology. In these circumstances, a peer or older child is more likely to be the more knowledgeable other.
Discussion groups, small group learning and collaborative exercises in schools and universities have also been incorporated in response to theories about social learning.

How Learning Occurs
Learning occuring inside a person when he contends that technology and data systems allow learning to happen outside of the brain, in computers and databases
Knowles came to believe there was a continuum ranging from teacher-directed pedagogy on the one end, to student-directed learning (andragogy) on the other end, and both approaches are appropriate with adults and children depending on the situation.
Adults face additional concerns as they age resulting in memory decay and retrieval issues.
