QUOTE
- Culture is not synonymous with country or ethnicity, for example, but rather describes communities whose members share key beliefs, values, behaviors, routines, and institutions. As scholars addressing cultural issues have long observed, cultural communities include heterogeneity among groups and individuals.
- Variation also exists between cultural communities, including on their degree of heterogeneity, intergroup contest, and change over time.
- Culture is defined as the symbolic, behavioral, and institutional inheritances that are shared and co-constructed by members of a community.

FACTS••
The English-speaking world comprises the 88 countries and territories where English is either an official, administrative, or cultural language.
As of the 2000s, between one billion to two billion people globally speak English, making it the largest language by number of speakers, and the third largest language by number of native speakers, as well as the most geographically widespread language
The regions where English is natively spoken by the majority of the population, due to cultural connections to England, are termed "the Anglosphere". Speakers of English are called Anglophones.

Objective••
To gain a deeper understanding of the cultural, social, and political contexts surrounding the Anglophone culture, which encompasses transformative historical facts of Anglophone culture.
Empire (2012) BBC documentary series
Empire (2012)
Documentary
Written and presented by English broadcaster, journalist, and author Jeremy Paxman, this richly detailed documentary follows the rise of the British Empire. At its height, the small island nation ruled over a quarter of the world's population. Examining what is often considered a dark stain on British history, it shows how greed and a lust for power marginalized numerous groups across the Empire's vast expanse.
SYNOPSIS
Empire is a major five-part series presented by Jeremy Paxman. Jeremy Paxman travels the world, exploring many different aspects of the British Empire. It tells the story of the British Empire in a new way, tracing not only the rise and fall of the empire but also the complex effects of the empire on the modern world political, technological and social and on Britain.
Empire (2012)
DEBATE
What role did the British Empire play in spreading Anglophone culture around the world, and what are the consequences of this legacy?
Was the British Empire a force for cultural enrichment or cultural exploitation within Anglophone societies and beyond?
What role did immigration play in shaping Anglophone culture, and how has it influenced societal attitudes towards diversity?
