Timket ( Epiphany)

. Its a religious festival that is celebrated in Ethiopia. . It is celebrated since the 4th century upto now. . Timket comemorates the baptism of LORD JESUS CHRIST by John the Baptist in the river of Jordan . . The festivities lats for 3 days from January 18th upto 20th . It was registered in the UNESCO in 12th of December, 2019 As one of the Intangible Cultural Heritages of Ethiopia.

. During this festival the Arks of the Covenant of the Churches are reverently wrapped in rich cloth and carried by the High Preists of the Church taking them into a prepared place Where they spent the whole night praying . . Followed by deacons, the students of the Church and people saying Psalms , beautiful hymns and blowing trumpet until they reach their destination .

. Early in the morning a divine litrugy is made at a nearby stream source and the water is blessed, Then the senior priest sprinkels sanctified water onto the congretion.. Often people jump into the water to participate in the blessing.

. After the celebration the Arks of the Covenant will be taken back to their Churches followed by people saying Psalms and melodious hymns leaving the Ark Covenant of Archangle Michael which its returned and celebrated on 20th of January.

Traditonal clothing

. The people wear a clothing called "Habesha libs". . The women wear a white dress with a various design with a scarf called "Netela". . The men wear a white sweater or shirt that also have a various desgin and white pants

An intresting fact :

. Young men throw a lemon to the women they like as an asking to be together and after The women turns around to see who had thrown the lemon to them then if its a yes, they will pick up the lemon and If its a no, they would leave it as it is and continue what they were doing.
