Interlanguage & Fossilization
BY:DENISE LOPEZBLE 408
TWO METHODS OF TRAINING
According to Selinker (1978), interlanguage fossilization is divided into two types: individual fossilization and group fossilization. The first refers to the continued growth of an individual learner's IL, whereas the latter refers to a plateau in the diachronic development of a community language.

Stabilization VS Fossilization
Selinker and Han created a detailed discussion: they assert that stabilization and fossilization can form a continum. -IL reconstructing -temporary "stuck" -long term cessation of IL development

Strengths and Limitations
Benefits interlanguage: facilitates communication, reflects progress, felexible and adaptative AND Limitations of Interlanguage: errors and misconceptions Benfits of Fossilization: efficiency, psychological adaptation Limitations: limited communication, barriers, difficulty in remediation
