WHat is visual Scaffolding?

Scaffolding: Breaking down complex tasks into smaller, more manageable steps, and providing support and feedback as students work through each step.

DEFINTION OF VISUAL SCAFFOLDING: a way to support students' comprehension by scaffolding instruction through visuals. illustrations/ drawings. graphics. images. photographs.

Benefit for ELLS

How it is supportive: -visual support for ELLs to be able to see visually -allows for mental connetions between words and pictures - creates confience

More benifits for ELLs

Helps ELLs use prior knowdlge

When you ask a ELL what an apple is they wont know becuase they dont know the enghlish word apple but if you show them a picture of an apple they will know that an apple is (native languge for apple) they will are able to use what they already know about an apple.

Helps ELLs remember

You ever have a moment when you are trying to remeber a point in your life and you just say "if i saw a picutre i would remeber?" that is how it would work for ELLs instead of them having to filter through thier native laungue and enghlish to find the answer they can look at a picutre and go from there.

Why should teachers use it?

  • Can be used for all students not just ELLs
  • Provides oppurtunites for disuscions
  • Improves learning
  • Provides a form of structre
  • Inhances memorization skills
