Theorist: Lev VygotskyCharacteristics: Emphasizes the role of social interactions and cultural influences in cognitive development (Ornstein & Hunkins, 2017). Role of Memory: The collaborative nature of learning in sociocultural theory implies that memories are constructed and reinforced through interactions with others, contributing to formation of cultural knowledge and individual cognitive development (Cherry, 2022). Learning: Occurs through social interactions in the ZPD where learning is faciliated through dialogue and shared experiences (Cherry, 2022).

Theorist: Malcolm KnowlesCharacteristics: Adult prefer self-direction, bring a readiness to learn, motivated by tasks and problem-solving, and appreciate when they can apply what they're learning (Bouchrika, 2024). Role of Memory: It underscores the importance of leveraging and building upon adults' existing cognitive frameworks and experiences (Ornstein & Hunkins, 2017). Learning: Various types of learning are recognized to cater to the diverse needs of adult learners: self-directed, experiential, problem-based, and active learning (Bouchrika, 2024).

Theorist: George Siemens and Stephen DownesCharacteristics: The theory highlights the role of technology, social networks, and diverse sources of information in facilitating learning and knowledge acquisition (Ornstein & Hunkins, 2017). Role of Memory: Focus is on the development of skills related to information retrieval, critical thinking, and the ability to evaluate and apply knowledge from diverse sources within the digital network (Kurt, 2023). Learning: Learning is a dynamic and collaborative process that capitalizes on the interconnected nature of information in the digital age (Kurt, 2023).
