SUMMARY

"NOUGHTS AND CROSSES" Is it a part of a series? Yes, it stands on the first step of the Nought & Crosses series, unfolding a narrative that expands and envolves across multiple books.

BOOK TITLE

+Info

author

Malorie Blackman, born in 1962 in London, is a distinguished British author known for her impactful contributions to young adult literature. She has received numerous awaeds for her work, including being the first black British Children's Laureate. Blackman's writing often tackles complex themes, challenging societal norms and advocating for diversity. Her ability to creaft compelling narratives with socaial relevance has solodified her position as a prominent voice in literature for young readers.

MAIN CHARACTERS

Sephy was a cross, but that didn't mean her life was perfect(clever)Callum was a nought, normal but not stupid (brave). Jasmine was a cross and was rarely seen without a glass of wine in her hand(selfish). Kamal was a cross, firm in opposing equality between Crosses and noughts(egocentric). Minerva was a cross, not particularly close to Sephy(realistic). Meggie was a nought, committed to nonviolent protest(attentive). Ryan was a nought, transitioning from passivity to activism(prudent). Lynette was a nought, caught in a fantasy world(empathetic). Jude was a nought, fueled by anger and resentment(step). Sarah was a nought, navigating the complexities of her position(generous).

SUMMARY

The story unfolds in a divided world, where "noughts" and "crosses" are separated. The core of the narrative focuses on the relationship between Callum and Sephy, building a story rich in details. This narrative explores themes such as discrimination, prejudice, and the quest for truth in a fictional setting that reflects relevant social issues. The plot acts as a mirror, reflecting on the complexities of society and human relationships in an imaginary context.

ALTERNATIVE ENDING

If I were the author, I might explore an ending where Callum and Sephy overcome challenges and build a future together. Instead of tragedy, they could unite to fight against discrimination and injustice in their society. It could be an ending that emphasizes resilience and hope, allowing Callie Rose to grow up in a transformed world where love triumphs over adversity

FAMOUS

"Noughts & Crosses" addresses racial discrimination in a fictional world where "noughts" and "crosses" face divisions, reflecting similar struggles to those of the Little Rock Nine and Ruby Bridges in the 1950s. While Little Rock Nine encountered resistance and violence when integrating into high school, Ruby Bridges was the first African American girl to attend a desegregated elementary school. The connection lies in both historical experiences and the plot of "Noughts & Crosses" exploring the tensions and challenges of racial discrimination, albeit in different contexts.

The part that I liked the most and at the same time liked the least was when they kidnapped Sephy and had relations because from that moment Sephy becomes pregnant and has a daughter named Callie Rose. However, I don't like it because of everything Callum does to Sephy, and the way Callum dies is not the ending I expected or wanted for this book.
