HISTORY

-Turkey has a long and varied history that dates back as far as 50,000 years before the founding of the Turkish Republic in 1923. Turks, originally a nomadic people from Central Asia, established several empires, including the Seljuk Empire and later the Ottoman Empire, which was founded in Anatolia by Turkish ruler Osman in 1299. - The Ottoman Empire was founded in Anatolia, the location of modern-day Turkey. Originating in Söğüt (near Bursa, Turkey), the Ottoman dynasty expanded its reign early on through extensive conquering. -The founder and the first sultan of the Ottoman Empire, Osman, was born in 1258 AD in Sogut, near Bursa. He was one of the three sons of Ertugrul Gazi, and his mother was Halime Hatun, he was 23 years old when he took the control of Kayi Clan in Sogut and then ascended the throne after the death of his father, ruling for 27 years until his death in 1326.

This history should be celebrated.

RELIGION

Islam is the largest religion in Turkey. More than 99% of the population is Muslim, Christianity (Oriental Orthodoxy, Greek Orthodox, and Armenian Apostolic) and Judaism are the other religions in practice, but the non-Muslim population declined in the early 2000s. Turkey has several historical mosques, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (also known as the blue mosque) in Istanbul, the Süleymaniye Mosque, and Hagia Sofia (now a museum, formerly a mosque and before that a church) both also in Istanbul. Kocatepe Mosque in Ankara and Alâeddin Mosque in Konya are also noteworthy, and there are also several churches and synagogues in the country.
