Esprime un confronto tra due elementi.

COMPARATIVO DI MAGGIORANZA Esempio: il mio zaino è più bello del tuo.

Come si forma il comparativo di maggioranza in inglese? Dobbiamo distinguere tra

SHORT ADJECTIVES (aggettivi brevi o monosillabici)

LONG ADJECTIVES (aggettivi lunghi o plurisillabici)

SHORT ADJECTIVES: si aggiunge -ER all'aggettivo BIG = BIGGER SMALL = SMALLER HAPPY = HAPPIER

SHORT adjective + er + THAN (di)

Example: small

The crab is smaller than the dolphin. Il granchio è più piccolo del delfino.

LONG ADJECTIVES : si mette MORE prima dell'aggettivo

beautiful = more beautiful dangerous = more dangerous intelligent = more intelligent

MORE + LONG adjective + THAN (di)

Example: dangerous

The shark is more dangerous than the crab. Lo squalo è più pericoloso del granchio.

CASI PARTICOLARI!!

Gli aggettivi GOOD (buono) e BAD (cattivo) hanno comparativi irregolari: GOOD BETTER (migliore) My hamburger is better than yours. BAD WORSE (peggiore) My sandwich is worse than yours.

In inglese, per formare il superlativo dobbiamo distinguere tra

LONG ADJECTIVES (aggettivi lunghi o plurisillabici)

SHORT ADJECTIVES (aggettivi brevi o monosillabici)

SHORT ADJECTIVES Si mette: THE + short adjective + EST BIG = THE BIGGEST SMALL = THE SMALLEST HAPPY = THE HAPPIEST

CASI PARTICOLARI!!
