What is reported speech?

When we tell someone what another person has said

We can change direct speech to reported speech

Remember to change the tense when changing direct speech to reported speech: * Present Simple to Past Simple * Past Simple to Past Simple Perfect

EXAMPLES

Direct Speech: I like coffee shopsReported Speech: He said he liked coffee shops
Direct Speech: I worked for a bankReported Speech: He said he had worked for a bank

We often use a tense which is 'further back' in the past
