What does culture mean?
Culture is what creates a person. A place where people come from. The place that a person grows from. Whether is be their home or their country. Culture can be part of a tradition. Culture can be something passed down. Culture can be part of your heritage But most importantly, culture is what makes you, you
Life Experiences
Born into a life of struggles Too poor to afford water, too sad to smile. In a world where you're forced to work, often days on end. Life was gray and never ending
Oooo a penny!
We were so poor that every penny meant the world to us. My parents worked minimum wage jobs. Life was tough. We spent as much money as we made, which really wasn't a lot. I remember vividly how we would pick up coins off the sidewalk at times. In a world where people made just over $10 an hour, every penny counts. My parents were fresh immigrant at the time. We had no savings, nobody to back us up. Hardwork was the only way out. My dad persued an education as he worked minimum wage jobs, in hopes of changing our lives.
Why is education important?
Education was often seen as a gateway to heaven. A rope to pull you out of misery. A path out of the jungle. A chance to pull you out of a sinking pit Education was key, a key to open the door to heaven
Other people
We were poor. There's nothing more to it. We often were forced to do things that others didn't. Going to school as a small child, I remember my peers having new toys and all of the latest beyblades. I had none of that. I was ashamed to talk to others in fear of being made fun of for not having the same toys they did. I boxed myself off from others in fear that I wouldn't be accepted for who I was. That's probably the reason why I'm so shy and quiet today.
Effects
Honestly, the impact was kind of minimal. I grew up working really hard in school because it was a core part of my culture. I always wanted to grow and be better. We eventually made enough to live comfortably. Life got easier the harder we worked, but that's no reason to slack off because we never want to be back to living in poverty. Despite being dirt poor, life was really enjoyable back then. Every single small thing counted when you are really poor. Even the smallest piece of candy is enough to make a kid smile.
