IDENTIFY THE TYPE OF WORD GIVEN IN BRACKETS
EXAMINE THE STRUCTURE OF THE SENTENCE
USE THE CONTEXT
ADD A SUFFIX, PREFIX OR BOTH
READ THE SENTENCE SEVERAL TIMES
IDENTIFY THE TYPE OF WORD GIVEN IN BRACKETS
IDENTIFY THE TYPE OF WORD GIVEN IN BRACKETS
IDENTIFY THE TYPE OF WORD GIVEN IN BRACKETS
EXAMINE THE STRUCTURE OF THE SENTENCE
Read the sentence several times.
Eg. There has been a great ____________ in the economy. (improve)
What category of word is the word given in brackets?
Eg. " There has been a great ___________________ in the economy. ( improve )

Now that you know the category of word you need and its meaning decide whether you will add:
- a suffix ( at the end of the word) eg. -ment, -ness, etc
- a prefix ( at the beginning of the word)eg. un- , dis- , etc
- both a suffix and a prefix eg. - ed , en-
By examining the structure of the sentence you will be able to identify which category of word is missing.( noun, verb, adjective, adverb).
E.g. " There has ben a great ____________ in the economy."
article + adjective
NOUN
Use the context to determine whether the missing word has a positive or negative meaning.
Eg. " These instructions are totally ____________. We don´t know how to operate this machine." (USE)
