Scene 1 Summary

Characters

  • Caesar - Roman general and senetor, very powerful and possibly positioning himself as a dictator
  • Brutus - senetor, general, and friend of Caesar, but worried about how much power he is amassing
  • Cassius - senetor, general, does not like Caesar and opposes his rise to power; leader of the conspiracy
  • Antony - young, friend of Caesar, seems to have little power, but watch out for him
  • Casca - opposed to Caesar's rise to power; one of the conspirators
  • Calpurnia - wife of Caesar; has dreams of omens
  • Portia - wife of Brutus

  3. Analyze quote: why is it the most important in the act? What purpose does this quote serve? Why did the author put it here? Make sure to use evidence from the text to support your answer.
