On-Campus Experience

Overview

Welcome to a unique and enriching part of your educational journey! We eagerly anticipate your arrival on campus for the experiential immersion experience scheduled for the first week of each term. This immersive event spans two days, beginning on Friday evening from 5 PM to 9 PM and continuing on Saturday from 8 AM to Noon, followed by an afternoon session from 1 PM to 5 PM. This course's immersion time is Friday from 5 pm-9 pm. Our experiential immersion is more than just a series of activities; it's a deep dive into the heart of learning, crafted to resonate with the core principles of Ignatian Pedagogy. Each carefully designed and facilitated activity aims to provide a rich, hands-on learning experience that transcends traditional classroom boundaries. This immersive format allows for a comprehensive exploration of both the academic and professional dimensions of counselor education, woven seamlessly with opportunities for personal growth and self-discovery.

  • Description: Students create a physical or digital mosaic that represents various aspects of their identity (personal beliefs, cultural background, professional aspirations, etc.). This activity helps students recognize the multifaceted nature of their identity
  • Ignatian Elements: Context (understanding individual backgrounds) and Experience (exploring personal identity).
Research Integration Challenge
  • Description: Students critically analyze research papers and propose how they would integrate these findings into their counseling practice, followed by a group discussion.
  • Ignatian Elements: Reflection (on the relevance of research) and Evaluation (understanding the application in practice).
Ethical Dilemma Workshop
  • Description: Students work through various ethical dilemmas in small groups, discussing potential actions and outcomes. This promotes ethical reasoning and advocacy skills.
  • Ignatian Elements: Action (applying ethical principles) and Evaluation (assessing the effectiveness of decisions).
Ignation Reflection Circle
  • Description: Conclude with a reflection circle where students share their insights and learning experiences from the day, discussing how these will influence their future practice as counselor educators.
  • Ignatian Element: Encapsulates all five elements (Context, Experience, Reflection, Action, Evaluation) by providing a holistic overview of the day's learning.
Community Leadership Simulation
  • Description: Students participate in a simulated community meeting where they role-play as leaders addressing specific community needs. This fosters understanding of leadership dynamics in real-world contexts.
  • Ignatian Elements: Experience (engaging in leadership roles) and Reflection (considering the impact of leadership on community).
