Before the right to vote :
  • Colonization somehow has had a role for women, in fact, when the settlers arrived, they wanted to create a "New World", with new ideaologies, to create the best of Britain. Their wishes was to bring more humanity, tolerance in term of racial relation and give a less rigid class structure. To sum up they hoped to give more equality in society, for British men and women as well.
  • Kate Sheppard , was an important suffragette, pioneer, and a leader. She was at the head of the WCTU (Women's Christian Teperence Union)
  • The feminist movement did support votes for Maori women, as it gave a vision of a more egalitarian society.
