MIXED CONDITIONALS
Second conditional and third conditional
We use this combination to talk about an imaginary present condition (second conditional) with a past result (third conditional). Use past in the if clause and would/could/might + have + past participle in the main clause. If I didn't have so much work, I would have gone to the party.

HYPOTHETICAL SITUATIONS
wish / if only / would rather
They introduce hypothetical ideas, things, the speaker wants to be true, but that seems impossible.
simple past, past continuous, would and could are used to make hypothesis about present situations.
I wish I was more creative. If only he was doing his project instead of playing.
simple past is used to make hypothesis about general situations or states.
If only I was more creative I wish I was more creative I would rather be more creative.
Past continuous: is used to make hypothesis about a situation happening now.
If only he wasn't cheating on me... Luis wishes the baby wasn't crying.
WOULD / COULD
Could: is used to make hypothesis about an ability we want.
Would: is used to make hypothesis about a habit or behaviour we want to stop (or start)
I wish my dad wouldn't make so much noise when he wakes up.
If only I could read minds...
PAST PERFECT: it is used to make hypothesis about the past, and to show regrets.
If only I had studied more for the test..I wish Luis hadn't invited her to the party.

If the subject of both ideas is the same, we use: would rather + base form
I would rather go to the party.
If the subject of the second idea is different, we use: would rather + + past verb
Mario would rather Laura did the project.
