Martin Luther King was an American civil rights activist from the 60s to the 70s. He fought against racism and segregations.

During segregations black and white people had to have separate schools, restaurants, bathrooms and seats on buses.

He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1929 into a religious family. He believed in non-violent solutions to segregations problem, and he was involved in many social and political events. He went to a religious school in Pennsylvania. Later, he chose to go to Boston University. He graduated at the age of 25 and became a pastor in Montgomery, Alabama.

In December 1955, in Montgomery Rosa Parks refused to give her seat to a white man, so she was arrested.

When MLK knew about Rosa's arrest, he started a non violent movement lasted almost a year.

His famous speech

In 1963 King organized a big demonstration in Washington D.C. There were over 200,000 people and it was there that he gave his famous speech ‘I have a dream’. This started a big change across the country.

Nobel Prize

In 1964 he received the Nobel Peace Prize

On April 4th 1968, while standing on a balcony in Memphis, he was shot dead by a sniper. After his murder, equal treatment finally began.
