PRESENT SIMPLE VS PRESENT CONTINUOUS

REMEMBER

- Adverbs like always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, and never are often used with the Simple Present to indicate the frequency of an action.Example: I always brush my teeth before going to bed.- Present Continuous is often used to describe actions happening right now. Words like "now" or "at the moment" are commonly used with this tense.Example: I am studying right now.- Present Continuous is also used to describe temporary situations or actions that are in progress around the present time.Example: She is working on a temporary project.- Some verbs, like "know," "believe," and "understand," are generally not used in the continuous form. They are used in the Simple Present to express states rather than actions. Don't say "I am liking this music". Use the present simple instead: "I like this music".

PHRASAL VERBS

Phrasal verbs are a combination of a verb and one or more particles (usually prepositions or adverbs) that together convey a different meaning than the individual words. They are quite common in English and can sometimes be a bit tricky for learners because the meaning of the whole phrase may not be immediately obvious from the meanings of the individual words. Let's take the phrasal verb "work out" as an example: Work: This is the main verb, indicating some kind of activity. Out: This is the particle (preposition) that, when combined with "work," changes the meaning. Now, "work out" means to figure out, solve, or resolve something. It's not only about physical exercise, but also finding a solution to a problem or understanding something. For instance: "I couldn't work out the math problem" means you couldn't solve or understand the math problem. "They need to work out their differences" means they need to resolve or settle their disagreements.

PHRASAL VERBS

Here are some tips for you on how to approach this next exercise on phrasal verbs: Read the sentence carefully: First things first, read the whole sentence. Get a feel for the context – it'll make choosing the right phrasal verb way easier. Find the main verb: Identify the main verb in the sentence. That's your starting point – the base word of the phrasal verb. Think about the meaning: Consider what each option could mean. Picture it in your mind. Choose the option that makes the most sense in that particular sentence. Use your resources: Don't hesitate to use a dictionary! Look up the phrasal verbs to understand their meanings. Check out example sentences for extra clarity. Hit the internet for help: If you're still unsure, a quick online search can be your best friend. Look for examples and see how the phrasal verb is used in different contexts. Pay attention to prepositions: Those little prepositions matter. They often give away the meaning. For example, "meet up with friends" or "eat out at restaurants." Take note of these clues!
