En el pasado los datos eran almacenados en bitacoras, diarios, bibliotecas y gabinetes.
Las bases de datos computarizadas ganan popularidad una vez que el uso de computadoras se vuelve rentable para las organizaciones privadas.
1960s
E.F.Codd publica un documento importante que sirve como introduccion de la base de datos relacional. En su modelo la base de datos pierde la coneccion al almacenamiento de datos fisico.
1970s
SQL se vuelve el lenguaje estandar por el ANSI y se vuelve rapidamente un exito comercial. Emerjen los sistemas de manejo de bases de datos orientados a objetos.
1980s
El crecimiento de la world wide web alimenta la demanda de sistemas de bases de datos servidor-cliente y la industria de bases de datos tiene un crecimiento exponencial.
1990s
Las aplicaciones de las bases de datos continuan en crecimiento. Nuevas apps interactivas son desarrolladas.
2000s
Actualmente las bases de datos son mas accesibles al publico general. Con la aparicion de la big data, el enfasis en la proteccion de datos ha crecido, lo que llevo al desarrollo de software automatizado como una herramienta popular en la interaccion con bases de datos.
