As of January 2024, Medicare will now reimburse for services provided by a community health workers associated with meeting beneficiary health-related social needs (HRSN).
In the 2024 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized several payment and coding changes related to HRSN that are intended to account for the resources involved when clinicians bring in CHWs, care navigators and peer support specialists to furnish medically necessary care.
