La conchyliculture est l'élevage de coquillages, qui est lui-même une forme d'aquaculture.

Étymologiquement la conchyliculture concerne l'élevage des mollusques conchifères (soit les coquillages en général), mais en réalité ce nom recouvre principalement l'élevage de mollusques marins, avec : l'ostréiculture (élevage des huîtres) ; la mytiliculture (élevage des moules) ; la vénériculture (élevage des palourdes) ; la cérastoculture (élevage des coques) ; la pectiniculture (élevage des coquilles Saint-Jacques et autres pectinidés) ; l’halioticulture (élevage des ormeaux).

Histoire

Des mollusques à coquilles sont mangés par les Hommes depuis la préhistoire. Les amas coquilliers (accumulation de coquilles de mollusques) constitués des restes des repas successifs des habitants sur certains sites, parfois sur de très longues périodes, présentent d'ailleurs un grand intérêt en archéologie. La discipline scientifique qui se consacre à l'étude archéologique des mollusques et de leurs rapports avec l'Homme est l'archéomalacologie. Les Grecs se servaient des coquilles d'huîtres pour voter et les Romains appréciaient les huîtres1. Les coquillages cueillis étaient issus des gisements naturels. Les premiers parcs à huîtres sont construits au xixe siècle.

Au niveau bac +2, le BTS Agricole Aquaculture ou le DEUST Technicien de la Mer et du Littoral (TML) option Valorisation et Production des Bio-ressources Aquatiques (VPBA) vous permettra d'aspirer à la gestion d'une exploitation aquacole.

Le salaire médian pour le poste de conchyliculteur est d'environ 1 600 à 2 000 euros bruts par mois. Cela représente environ 19 à 24 000 euros bruts par an, pour un net mensuel de 1300 à 1 600 euros.

C'est quoi la conchyliculture ?

Le conchyliculteur intervient dès la ponte, en captant les naissains ou larves immergés dans des enceintes d’eau de mer ou produites dans des bassins artificiels . Pour réaliser cette opération, il pose des supports solides, comme des cordages en plastique, sur lesquels les larves viennent s’agglutiner. En quelques mois, elles se muent en coquillages adultes, que le conchyliculteur recueille Le conchyliculteur place ensuite les coquillages dans un bassin spécial ou dans un parc en pleine mer pour qu’ils achèvent leur croissance avant de pouvoir être mis sur le marché. C’est ensuite l’étape du ramassage, du lavage, du triage et du pesage.
