What is an opinion?
An opinion is what you feel, think, or believe about something. Your opinion helps you make a choice. Your opinion is not a fact! Other people may disagree with your opinion. Opinions cannot be proven true or false.

You are studying different cities of the future. You must write about which type of city you think scientists should continue to research. Write an essay in which you state your opinion on which of the two futuristic cities discussed in the articles scientists should continue to research. Your article will be read by the other students at your school. Use evidence from the articles to help support your opinion on the topic. Make sure to include your opinion, clearly organize your essay, and support your opinion with details from the sources.

Beginning: Introduce the topic or text. State your opinion. Middle: - Plan to group related information together into paragraphs or sections. - Provide reasons for your opinion. - Introduce each paragraph with a sentence that states the reason or the main idea of the paragraph you are about to write. - Develop the middle reasons with facts and details that come directly from the text, it's your evidence! - Use linking words or phrases to connect ideas. Reflection: In each paragraph, include your thoughts about the evidence you included. You need to connect your thoughts to the evidence. End: Provide a concluding section related to the rest of the essay. It might be a feeling, impression, or message you want the reader to leave with.
