Higher Ed cybersecurity incidents caused by social engineering
Annual data-related incidents in higher education.
Information like educational and healthcare records are some of the most sought-after data for cybercriminals and provide the most financial gain for hackers.
Human error is the number one cause of data breaches from cyberattacks, with 52% of incidents directly attributable to them.
In 2019, there were a reported 348 incidents, nearly three times as many as in 2018. That's two incidents per school day.

If An Incident Occurs
- Only document information that has been substantiated.
- Do not communicate that there is a breach to those not involved in incident management.
- Do not conduct your own forensic analysis
- Report the incident as soon as possible
- Isolate any affected systems if compromised
- Don't send notification about the incident before consultation.
