Schools in The us should Recognize Muslim holidays

What are the Islamic holidays?

  • There are two different holidays that us Muslims clebrate after Ramadan. Ramadan is holy month on the Islamic calendar that we fast for 30 days from sunrise to sunset. We don't eat or drink until sunset, but before the sun rises we eat a small meal called suhoor which consists of dates and oatmeal. This meal is not menat to fill you up but to prepare your body for the day of dast.
  • The first holiday after Ramdan is Eid al- Fitr which its the celebration of completeing the month of fast. Different culutures celebrate it differently but most muslims dress up and meet up with their families and celebrate their accomplishment. Eid al-Adha is the "Festival of Sacrifice" which represents when Ibrahim (Abraham) was comanded to sacrifice his son Ishmael as a sign of obdience to God (Allah).

Muslim

Population

  • Islam is the fastest growing religion as of right now.
  • 1.8 billion of the population is Muslim.

Equality For All Religions

Progression So Far

  • Satistics show that since 2022 school districts such as New York, New Jersey,Philadelphia, etc in the US have added to their school calendar to close school during Eid.
  • Since 1.8 billion people are Muslim including students for example New York in 2015 began adding to their school calendar to close for Eid since 10% of their student population is Muslim.
  • In the Fairfax County Public School system, reports show that 33.3% and 38.5% more students than usual were absent from school on Eid al-Fitr holidays in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
  • There are days taken off school calendar for other religions but for Islam it has only been acknowledged on calendars but not given a break.
  • School boards refuse to add it onto to the calendar or take off religious holidays altogether just because we are fighting for the right of ours.
  • All religions should come with days off because there is no reason students have to be marked for a holiday they derserve to celebrate.
  • School till continue to go on while some students have to be marked absent and miss lessons.

Islamic holidays are always chosen to be ignored consistently but not only islamic holidays. Cinco de Mayo is not a day off in the school calendar. But Labor Day, President Day, Thanksgiving, etc but if so many americanized holidays get day offs when there isn't really much of a celebration. When it comes to islamic holidays they always chosen time and time again to not be respected.
