Stress's Effect on the Body

Stress

Stress works by releasing hormones like adrenaline and cortisol in response to stimuli deemed threatening. these hormones give you the energy and focus to quickly deal with the problem at hand. The problems come when you feel stressed about something you can't immediatley fix. Remaining stressed for long periods of time causes mental and physical health issues, and also causes exhaustion. While stress can help us in small amounts, too much of it can cause long lasting harm.

How Can We Deal with Stress?

  • Get it over with - if there's a specific problem or chore you've been putting off thats causing stress, it's best to just get it over with as soon as possible.
  • Distract yourself - if there's nothing you can do, try to get your mind off it with friends, recreation, or hobbies.
  • Learn to handle stress - much of what we feel from stress depends on how we react. If you think of stress as a pick-me-up for a challenge, it can not only help to calm you, but motivate you.

What is Stress?

Stress is the process by which we percieve and respond to stressors. Stress puts us in fight or flight mode so we can deal with urgent problems. Stress can either empower us to face our problems head on, or worry and tire us to the point of exhaustion.
