History of mma
the mixed martial arts is an international billionaire industry that packs stadiums, floods pay-per-views and shakes people's minds.
starting in the ancient olympic games, the forgotten sport of pankration, where 2 olympians fought against each other in a hybrid form of combat combining the skills of grappling and striking. And, of course, the competitions were only won by either knock out or submission.
but the industry only really started in the free-for-all fights of Brazil's Vale Tudo, in the 20th century. in The '80s, it was introduced structure to this new fighting sport with Japan's Shooto, adding rules and weight classes.although, things started to get more seriously after the birth of the ultimate fighting championship (ufc) in 1993, who fullfilled everything the sport was lacking to become a professional fighting sport.
picture of the ufc's first ever fight, starring Gerard gordeau, a professional savate fighter, and the sumo fighter, teila tuli, in 1993.
Origin of the ufc and it's global reach
