The leader of a gang which kidnapped people for ransom.

The case of Daisy Armstrong

Real name: Lanfranco Cassetti (aka Samuel Ratchett) Occupation: gangster art dealer Place of living: He fled America before he could be arrested for his crimes.
Before his death, he received anonymous threatening letters. This is why he always carried a gun. Cassetti wanted to hire Poirot to discover who was threatening him. Poirot refused.

The crime

00.37 A.M.: Poirot wakes to the sound of a scream coming from a compartment next to his. He sees the conductor Pierre Michelle knock on Cassetti's door and ask if he is all right. A man's voice replies in French, "Ce n'est rien. Je me suis trompé". 00.43 A.M.: Mrs. Caroline Hubbard rings the bell urgently saying someone had been in her compartment. 1.10 A.M.: Poirot sees a woman in a scarlet kimono in the corridor.

The next day, Cassetti is found dead, having been stabbed 12 times in his sleep.

26 years old She was the personal secretary to Sonia Armstrong, the mother of Daisy Armstrong. She is Dr Arburthnot's lover.

She shared her compartment with Greta Ohlsson who confirmed Mary was sleeping between midnight and 2 A.M.

Dr Arbuthnot

British physician. He served under Colonel Armstrong in the war and had his medical school paid for by Armstrong. He is Mary Debenham's lover.

He was talking with MacQueen until 1.30.

Caroline Hubbard

American actress. Her real name is Linda Arden. She has two daughters: the Countess Andrenyi and Sonia Armstrong. She is Daisy's grandmother.
Alibi :

She was sleeping in her compartment.

Edward Masterman

English butler. He served under Coloned Armstrong as a soldier during WWI. Then, he joined Colonel Armstrong in New York to become his butler. Masterman boarded on the Orient Express as Ratchett's butler. He doesn't speak French very well.

He shared his compartment with Antonio Foscarelli who confirmed Edward was sleeping between midnight and 2 A.M.

Hector MacQueen

American. He is Mr Ratchett's assistant. He helped Mr Ratchett as an interpreter for his art deals.
Alibi :

He was talking with Dr. Arbuthnot until 1.30.

Countess Elena Andrenyi

She married Rudolf Andrenyi. She is Sonia Armstrong's younger sister and Linda Arden's second daughter.
Alibi :

She was sleeping in her compartment after taking a trional, which, according to her husband, she always took when travelling by train.

Princess Natalia Dragomiroff

Russian aristocrat. She lived in Paris. She was Linda Arden's best friend and Sonia's godmother. Her handkerchief was found in Ratchett's bedroom.
Alibi :

She was sleeping in her compartment.

Your mission

After meditating on the evidence, Poirot summons Bouc (his friend and the railway director) and the 13 suspects to the restaurant car. There, he lays out all of the evidence before stating that there is only one behind Rachett/Cassetti's murder.
