what is it?
The Holy Graal is the legendary cup with which Jesus celebrated the Last Supper and in which Joseph of Arimathea collected the blood that flowed from his side pierced by the lance of the Roman centurion named Longinus during the crucifixion. It was used to establish the sacrament of the Eucharist. It is mentioned in various legends and sometimes it is credited with healing properties and in others the power to resurrect the dead or feed thousands of soldiers. The Holy Graal is usually symbolized in Legends with the form of a cup or of a fountain.
Where is it ?
There are two chalices that have survived to this day and are believed to be the Grail, one is located in Genoa, in the Treasure Museum of the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. This hexagonal cup is known as the Sacro Catino. It was brought back by Guglielmo Embriaco at his return from the First Crusade. While the another one is located in Valencia, in the Cathedral.
After that Chrétien de Troyes wrote about the Holy Graal, many people started to research other objects that Jesus used in The Last Dinner: the result was the basin that Jesus used during that dinner. This basin is now in Genoa and it has been there since the first crusade; but when Napoleon has invaded Genoa, he has sent the basin to Paris. In 1816 it has been returned to Genoa in 10 pieces. In 2017 it was restored in the form that is now.
holy graal's legend origin
We have listened for the first time (in a literature writing) about the Holy Graal, in the writings of Chrétien de Troyes, about the adventures of King Arthur and his knightes.
After the studies of many psychologists and scholars it was said that, the Holy Graal before Chrétien de Troyes, was part of the Celtic Mitology.
