Is there any difference between a dependent preposition and a prepositional verb?
Prepositional Verb: A prepositional verb is a verb that is followed by a preposition or a prepositional phrase, but the combination of the verb and preposition does not create a fixed expression with a distinct meaning. Instead, the preposition adds information to the verb, often modifying its meaning in a way that can be predicted based on the meanings of the verb and preposition individually.
Dependent Preposition: A dependent preposition is a preposition that is closely associated with a specific verb or adjective, forming a fixed expression with a particular meaning. In these cases, the preposition cannot be separated from the verb or adjective without changing the meaning of the expression.
Example: -She is interested in photography. The preposition "in" is dependent on the verb "interested" and together they form the expression "interested in".
Example: I look forward to meeting you. The verb "look" and the preposition "forward to" form the prepositional verb "look forward to," which means to anticipate or eagerly await something.
