In the UK, Mother's Day takes place on the same day as the traditional Christian day Mothering Sunday. This happens on the fourth Sunday during the Christian period of Lent. It used to be a day for people to go and visit the church where they were baptised, or attend their regular church as a child, which is called their mother church. This means that the date Mother's Day falls on changes every year, even though it is no longer treated as a religious celebration in the mainstream. Nowadays, Mother's Day is about celebrating mums and maternal figures who we want to show our gratitude and love for. Often people will send flowers, cards and children will hand-make gifts and keepsakes to give to their mum as a surprise.
New Year's Eve is the last day of the year, the day before New Year's Day. On New Year's Eve we usually have a party. The streets fill with groups of young people, music playing and cars honking their horns to greet the New Year. At bars and clubs, there are New Year's parties with dancing until dawn. Many hotels and restaurants also organise special New Year's Eve celebrations, including dinner, grapes, dancing and entertainment.

Americans generally believe that their Thanksgiving is modeled on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English colonists (Pilgrims) of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people. It serves as a timeless reminder to pause, appreciate the present, and extend a hand of kindness to those around us. In essence, Thanksgiving is not just a holiday; it's a heartfelt celebration of gratitude and togetherness that transcends time and tradition and the traditional foods are a large part of Thanksgiving celebrations. Many families include the entire family in the food preparation. Traditional foods include turkey, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes, cornbread, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce.
