Coding Loops & Sequences

Start

What is Coding?

Coding is giving instructions to a computer to make it do different things for you. It's just like telling a story or giving directions to a person.

Another example:

Just as a teacher gives directions to her students, a person can give directions to a computer by writing code.

Sequence:

Character will take a step, jump, wave hello, and stand on his head.

What happens when you add a Loop?

Character will take a step, jump, wave hello, and stand on his head again and again a certain number of times, or endlessly.

What is a Conditional?

"If, then" or "When" logic statements that when added, cause certain actions to be performed within certain conditions.

If/Then Conditional:

If: then

If the light is green, Character will take a step, jump, wave hello, and stand on his head.

When Conditional:

When

"Run"

When "run" is pressed, character will take a step, jump up in the air, wave, and stand on his head.

Let's Play a game!

Please listen carefully to the rules!

SPrite

The person with the bright pink "Sprite" sign is our sprite! We will be creating a sequence for them to follow.
a character that can be programmed to move, respond to events, and interact with other sprites.
Sprite:

Action Cards

The action cards tell the sprite what to do. If there is more than one action card lined up, the sprite will complete the actions in order.

Loops

If you place an action card inside the loop and add a number post it, the sprite will perform the action more than once.

Conditionals

These are conditions that determine when a sprite performs an actions. You can place a red event card inside the conditional. The sprite will perform that action when the event occurs. In this case, the event is a green screen, red screen, or yellow screen.
