Destruction and Disarray

Immediately after the attack, clean up crews began to put out fires and assess attacked ships and air fields. Some battleships were seen as total losses, as well as some crusiers.

• The attack lasted 2 hours and came in two attack waves
• 3 battleships were total losses
• Roughly 360 Japanese planes were used in the attack.

Casualties

Pearl Harbor would go down as one of the worst attacks on American Soil until 9/11 with an overall total of 2400 dead

The following day, President FDR makes a speech to Congress adn to America; condeming the attack on Pearl Harbor and imploring Congress to declare War against Japan and their Allies.

December 9th, 1941

Congress puts forth a motion to declare War on Japan. Everyone votes in favor of War with the exception of Montana Rep. Jenette Rankin

Millions of Americans Mobilize for War

The following weeks were filled with men and women voluteering for the war effort. 16 million men aged from 17-35 joined the US Military.
