Before you arrive in France
CROUS
- Arrivals are authorized starting
- Arrivals at the Crous are only possible Monday-Friday 09:00-16:30.
CROUS
1. Download the 5 CROUS documents and fill them out by referring to the files translated into English. Click on this link to download the documents: 2023-2024 CROUS Documents
2. Buy the housing insurance before you move in to the Crous room (Studio T1): We recommend this insurance which provides coverage for a period of 6 months: Heyme Insurance
3. Submit the Visale application and download the “Visa” when you get it ( referring to “Guide application visale”)
4. 3 ID pictures and copy of your passport for your check-in in Crous.
5. Make an appointment on the CROUS platform at the earliest hour for 1st February 2024 for check-in as soon as the reservations are open: CROUS Appointment Link
6. Send all your CROUS documents + Visale + housing insurance to Ms. AGBO Victoire-Ayikolé by 15 January 2024 at victoire-ayikole.agbo@crous-lyon.fr.

Health Insurance
Civil Liability Insurance
Under French law it is mandatory to have a civil liability insurance ("assurance responsabilité civile") to cover damage to another person or property.
French social security (mandatory) EU/EEA/CH/UK Residents - Prepare your EHIC before leaving Québec Residents - Prepare your SE-401 form from the RAMQ Others - Please prepare health insurance at least for the first month (optional). Student Cover France can provide health insurance while waiting for Social Security coverage. Everyone is entitled to free healthcare coverage in France. More information about to sign up will be provided during a seminar in September.
Housing Insurance
Housing insurance covers your accommodation and belongings in France during your studies against unexpected events. It covers you against theft, vandalism, dammage by extreme wheater, fire, water dammage, burst pipes, and other losses.
Complementary Health Insurance (optional) Health Insurance (Social Security) partially reimburses your health expenses. A supplementary health (mutual), individual or company, allows to cover the remaining costs.

Tips for Birth Certificate EU/EEA birth certificates Please request a multilingual standard form from your local authority (Regulation (EU) 2016/1191). Non-EU/EEA birth certificates If your country is a signatory to the Apostille Convention please have it apostilled. If not in French, have it translated in French by a consulate appointed translator. If not possible, it is possible to have it translated in France by a court appointed translator
Arrival
Seminars
We'll be having mandatory meetings to provide you of important information. This is your opportunity to receive assistance with different administrative procedures.
Enrollment
Bring all the documents for your enrollment, then you get your encollement certificate.
Immigration
Non EU/EEA students with a VLS-TS visaYou have 3 months to validate your VLS-TS visa online. But do it as soon as possible. Non EU/EEA students without a VLS-TS visaMinor students (under 18), you have nothing to do until you turn 18 when you have to apply for a student visa. VLS-T visa You have nothing to do during your stay. EU/EEA students Enjoy your free time!

Check-in and pick up your keys to your room.
Preparation for your stay
- Purchase your transport card.
- Subscrib for a French phone number.
- Open a French bank account, which is required for healthcare payments.
- The Emmaüs thrift shop has used furniture and other used goods that can help you get started.
STUDIES
Basic Class Rules
- Attendance is mandatory!
- Make sure to be on time! If tardy you may have to go to academic affairs to be excused. Inform professors if you know you'll be late for some reason
- Expect to work! The French school system can be quite severe. Don't hesitate to talk with professors or go to the student tutors with your questions!
Conclusion
STUDent Life
- According to French regulations, all students are required to contribute compulsory fees for participation in student activities. For exchange students, the amount is 12.5 euros per semester.
- If you want to do any sports you will also need a signed doctors statement. A model statement will be provided and must be signed and stamped by a doctor before coming.
- For those who have agreed they will have a student buddy. They can pick you up at the airport, but will not pay for transportation.

- If requested everyone will receive a buddy to help with integration activities on arrival and to plan fun outings.
- Many activities are planned throughout the year to help you get to know your fellow international students (may be modified if health guidelines change)
- ECAM Student associations plan multiple events throughout the year.
