All conditional tenses...

Have two halves: the condition and the result!

CONDITION,

RESULT.

They're not fixed! You can move them around! BUT if the condition goes first, you HAVE to put a comma!!

We divide conditionals in groups depending on the context of the meaning and the time tenses we use with them

Zero Conditional

We use the zero conditional to talk about general truths or results that always happen if a condition is present. We are talking in general, not about one particular situation.

it becomes a prince.

If you kiss a frog ,

present (simple) + present (simple)

First Conditional

To talk about things that might happen in the future if a condition is present. We don’t know if those things will happen or not, but they are a real possibility.

you'll pass the exam.

If you study hard,

present (simple) + future (simple), imperative, modal

Second Conditional

We use the second conditional to talk about hypothetical or imaginary situations in the present or the future.

I would buy a mansion.

If I won the lottery,

past (simple) + would, could, may + infinitive

Third Conditional

We use the third conditional to talk about hypothetical or imaginary situations in the past.

I would have passed the exam.

If I had studied harder,

Would, could, may + HAVE

Past perfect

Mixed!

We can mix any halves of the 2nd and 3rd conditionals if we want to mix the present and the past in the same sentence.

If you had gone to bed earlier,

you wouldn't be tired now!

3rd conditional [ past perfect]

2nd conditional [ would + infinitive]

If I didn't have so much work,

I would have gone to the party last night.

3rd conditional [ would have]

2nd conditional [ past simple]

Instead of "if"
