• Most raps use rhyming couplets to give them flow and energy.
• A rhyming couplet is when two lines of a song or poem end with words that rhyme.
• There are lots of similarities between writing poems and writing lyrics.

Top tips for writing your rap

• End your lines with rhyming couplets.
• Use the examples of rhyming pairs for ideas of words to end your lines with.
• If you feel comfortable, try your lines out as you work to see how they sound when you rap them.
• Do this quietly to yourself or share with a partner.

Top tips for writing your rap

• If your lines are of similar length (similar number of words or syllables), it is easier to get flow into your rap.
• Do not worry too much as some of the best rappers mix up the lengths of their lines!
• Do not have too many words in your lines.

• Try to make sure that each pair of lines includes some key, online safety information. Stay on topic!

Top tips for writing your rap

• Try to rap along with the music if the backing track is playing.
• It helps if you can feel the pulse of the music so you know how fast or slow you should be rapping.
