TECHNOLOGIES

Medical technologies, infrastructure, information and communication technologies:

1.1 MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIESThe strongest point of the Black Plague was between 1346 and 1351 (Middle Age). At that moment there weren't many technologies for studing the pathogenic agent. It wasn't necessary any technology because doctors looked the buboes of sick people (black inflammation in the skin). For treatitng the disease they used basic protective concoctions and antidotes; and also they isolated infected people. Finally, doctors usually carried a black tunica, a bird mask and a stick for no touching infected people.

TECHNOLOGIES

These are some of the medical solutions we can count on today:

1. Galenic Medicine: Influenced by Galen, a Roman physician, medical thinking centered around the theory of humors, positing the body's composition of four fluids. 2.Bloodletting and Purging: Common treatments involved bloodletting to balance humors and purges using laxatives or emetics to address various illnesses. 3. Aromatherapy and Amulets: To purify air and protect against disease, herbs and spices were burned, and there was widespread belief in the effectiveness of amulets and talismans. 4.Quarantine:Although not explicitly named, isolation measures were taken to contain the disease, with affected individuals often separated from the community. 5. Herbal Remedies:Various plant-based remedies aimed to alleviate symptoms, but their efficacy varied, lacking a scientific foundation. 6.Unawareness of Yersinia pestis Bacteria: The bacterium causing bubonic plague, Yersinia pestis, remained unidentified until the 19th century. Medical professionals during the Black Death were unaware of the bacterial nature of the disease and its transmission through fleas. In conclusion, 14th-century medicine during the Black Death relied on limited knowledge and practices now deemed ineffective or harmful. It took many centuries for a modern understanding of infectious diseases and advancements in medicine to emerge.

CURIOSITIES

Bird mask

The mask that the doctors used made the situation more terrifying. At the tip of the beak, a mixture of aromatic herbs and other substances known as theriac was deposited to prevent bad odors (the plague) that came from the sick and corpses.

Six centuries long

Bubonic plague, which is the most common form of plague, and is caused by the bite of an infected flea, was not considered inactive until 1959. It was then that the World Health Organization announced its demise. But pandemic should not be confused with disease, the disease is still active, although its incidence is minimal.

Quarantine

QUARANTINE The term quarantine did not arise until the appearance of the Black Death. According to historians, it was in Venice when it began to be used “officially” and the name comes from “quaranta giorni”. It is believed that it does not have a scientific explanation, but rather comes from the number of days that Jesus spent in the desert according to the Bible.

04 CONCLUSION

Technology impact on society and social equality.

CONCLUSION

Final result of the Black Plague

Currently, the plague continues to spread through rodent fleas. This disease affects almost 3,000 people worldwide. With proper treatment, however, 85 percent of today's victims survive the disease. Current antibiotics are effective against the modern Yersinia pestis, and would also have been effective against the Black Death. In technology, it slowed the develop of new styles of architecture; but it also helped us making new vaccines and treatments for others disseases. That disease killed in the Middle Age 80 millio people in Europe, Africa and Asia. It also slowed the develop of big cities and it caused fights between muslims, jews and christians.
