Mosque of Córdoba
The space, divided into a single nave perpendicular to the qibla wall, appears articulated through a module of superimposed arches. This system is perceived as Hellenistic, Roman or Visigothic art, this will exert an enormous influence on the history of universal architecture.
The materials are reused, belonging to other previous constructions, such as the Basilica of San Vicente. The walls are built from limestone ashlars, arranged with rope and firebrand, the floor is composed of a thick layer of mortar on compacted earth.
This mosque stands out for the extensive and rich ornamental program that is developed on its walls, based on plasterwork, atauriques, rhombus cloths or epigraphic motifs.
We will see its various fountains, the prayer hall, now eight naves, the oratory, which involved the destruction of the primitive qibla wall, its bell tower, even the Royal Chapel, now not habitable, so it is configured as an enclosure of quadrangular plants.
The vault crosses four arches with another four diagonally arranged. All of these accessories appear decorated with plaster muqarnas.

Visit Tour
The history of Medina Azahara begins with Abderraman, III, and his decision to build a city on the outskirts of Córdoba, between the years 936 and 976. A city that as a whole will bring together both the administrative and residential tasks of the caliphate. Taking advantage of the terrain's orography, a city was designed from the existing heights, where the upper terrace was occupied by the private function and residence of the royal family, as well as the government function. Medina Azahara(Madinat al-Zahra) was the most beautiful example of splendor of al-Andalus. A city of a beauty that no other in the world could compare to. According to legend, it was born from a love story, and another story, from wars, destroyed it when it was only 70 years old. The ruins of that city, very close to the capital of Cordoba, remain quite unknown to the majority of Andalusians. In recent weeks we have heard about them again due to the controversy surrounding their abandoned state.

alhambra
The Alhambra, located in Granada, it is a perfect place to visit and discover this type of interesting culture. The decorative element most used by Granada architects will be the ataurique, or plant decoration, and, to a lesser extent, the lacework and diamond nets. Despite Muslim art having prohibited the representation of figures, the decoration themes in the Alhambra are very varied. The classic calligraphic decoration is used, specifically cursive and kufic writing, in which poems by different court poets can be read. The Alhambra, named for its reddish walls. Its strategic position, from which the entire city is dominated. It is also thought that constructions existed prior to the arrival of the Muslims. From the reform of the Alcazaba and the palaces, through the expansion of the walled enclosure, the Puerta de la Justicia, the expansion and decoration of the towers, the construction of the Baths and the Cuarto de Comares, the Sala de la Barca, to the Courtyard of the Lions and its annexes.

It will amaze its visitors as they walk under its Gothic vaults, discovering its multiform iconography (painting, sculpture, goldsmithing, textiles, choral books, stained glass), filling the most diverse Gothic and Renaissance chapels, to later find themselves in the haven of the Patio de los Naranjos, with the bibliographic and documentary jewels that are kept in the Archive and Chapter Library, portico of a unique sancta sanctorum.
It has the classic structure of the Almohad minarets that will continue to be used for centuries in most of the Mudejar bell towers. It is composed of a central prism with a square base, surrounded by four external walls. Between both structures are the climbing ramps. The courtyard or oldsahn of the mosque has been greatly renovated by its successive restorations, although its original structure can still be seen.
In its center there is a modern fountain that takes the place of the old sabil. The upper cup is Visigothic and is the same one that the primitive Almohad fountain had.
