Corruption in Mexico

According to Zimmerman (2021), Mexico has been among the worst 5 countries in corruption evaluations. This is largely due to the insecurity the country suffers, the non-compliance with the law, and the poor management of power. For instance, in the CPI (Corruption Perception Index) Mexico was scored with 31 points, 0 being highly corrupt and 100 being non-corrupt. (Transparencia Mexicana, 2023).

How to end corruption

This is what the global coalition against corruption, Transparency International, recommends:

1. Breaking the cycle by formally punishing those who practice it.

2. Improving the public administration and finance management.

3. Making the access to information easier for citizens and promoting a transparent relationship between the press, the government, and the people.(2017).

The Goal

The 16th goal, which is called Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions is remarkably important to this particular topic.

This is because it focuses on providing justice to everybody equally, which is exactly what we have to do to remove corruption from our society.

If we accomplish this goal by 2030, not only will our government system be better, but social and insecurity problems will disappear too.
