Summary

the bubonic plague,or black death ,was one of the most devasting pandemics in human history.it originated in central Asia and China,and spread rapidly in Europe. It began in England in 1348 and killed between one third and one half of the population in a metter of months.

it became known as the 'Black Death' because the body became dark-coloured after death. it spread quickly due to a lack of immunity among the population and because the bubonic form was accompanied by outbreaks of the pneumatic plague,which was spread by direct contact between humans and gave no chance of survival.

some victims caught the bubonic plague and were able to recover .however ,most people were dead within a few days. flight from infected areas was the most common response. people usually left the city to go to the countryside.

the creatures responsible for the spread of the plague - rats and fleas- were not suspected for one simple reason: they were common and familiar in the 14th century.

it was carried by fleas living on black rats that infested trading ships.

the actual plague bacillus,yersina pestis,was discovered only in the middle of the 19th century for almost everyone . people said the plague was a sign of God's anger
